what’s a writer to do?

It’s been a pretty awful 18 months or so in book-making land.  Upheavals galore.

There’s all the stuff about the Google Settlement, which you don’t know whether to cheer or jeer.

And sweet hoppin’ horny toads, there’s been a decimation of the kidlit magazine-scape.

Every day, there’s fewer and fewer and fewer imprints.

iPhone books.

What does it all mean?

Publishers take less chances.  Fewer markets to sell to.  Less money for promotion.  Nobody knows how much to charge for e-Books.  Publishers aren’t sure if kids will still read books.  The lines between publisher, editor, agent and author continue to blur.

What should a writer do?
